Wells Wood Turning & Finishing offers wood products finishing services for all the items we manufacture. We also offer wood painting, wood staining and wood varnishing services for wood parts made elsewhere. Ask us to quote on “finish only!”
We are well-known for our reliable and high-quality wood finishing. “The Paint Shop” works with stains, clear varnishes, standard or custom colors, and Carnauba wax. Our experienced finishing team determines the formulations and coating times required to help you achieve the look you want. We also work closely with the coatings manufacturers to develop custom color matches and gloss levels.
With Tumble Finishing, we employ large rotating tumblers (think cement mixers!) to coat hundreds — even thousands — of smaller wood parts at the same time. We tumble tool handles, craft parts and various components. Tumble finishing is probably the most economical method to finish bulk quantities of turned wood parts in a short period of time, for a reasonable cost. The tumblers can take stain, paint, wax or straight varnish. Several coats are typically required in a multi-step process. We dry the parts in large racks. The finished product is sorted and packed for shipping, or prepared for additional secondary processes, like ferruling.
With Dip Tank Finishing, we employ multi-gallon dipping tanks to coat larger wood parts on a smaller scale. Our dipping team arranges wood furniture components, wood police nightsticks, wood baseball bats or longer wood tool handles individually on long dipping boards. Our experts carefully lower each board into a tank of water-based paint or clear varnish. We aim for one coat per piece but, on occasion, a second coat may be applied to achieve the desired look. We hang the boards on drying racks, before pulling, sorting and packing, or preparing the finished wood products for additional secondary processes, like hanger bolting or laser engraving.
