Wells Wood Turning & Finishing was thrilled to provide the official wood eggs for this year’s traditional White House Easter Egg Roll.
The 2026 official wood eggs were painted in patriotic red, white and blue to commemorate the country’s 250th anniversary. The set of five also included a gold egg and a pastel blue — everyone always loves the pastels! The gold egg was imprinted with the Presidential Seal, with the others imprinted with the Presidential Coat of Arms. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump’s signatures were printed on the other side.

The Egg Roll itself took place Monday, April 6, on the South Lawn of the White House. It is a continuing tradition started in 1878 by President Rutherford B Hayes. The event includes an Easter egg hunt, egg roll, storytelling and live musical performances. The commemorative wood eggs are given to children and families as they leave the event. Sets of eggs in a nice gift box are also sold by the White House Historical Association. The number of wood eggs given out varies from year to year but typically approaches 100,000.
Wells Wood Turning & Finishing has been manufacturing colorful wooden eggs with custom imprints for many years. Our eggs are turned, painted and printed right here at the mill in Buckfield, Maine. Our hardwood is sourced in the Northeastern US. And our employees all come from the local community.
Manufacturing the eggs is a multi-step process that involves turning each piece from yellow birch on a high-capacity lathe. We trim the end to make the eggs stand upright, and sand them in large rotating sanders. We then paint them in large tumblers and apply the impressions with a pad printing machine.
Beyond the White House, our customers include museums, hotels, governor mansions, civic organizations, breweries, shopping centers and specialty advertising companies looking for novel marketing items (e.g. a golden nest egg!). The eggs are used for holiday celebrations, customer appreciation, fund raisers, product launches and general branding. Contact us today to discuss your custom project!
